Journalistic Article Competition 2026

The Cyprus Mathematical Society (CyMS) announces a competition for the writing of a journalistic article of philosophical reflection and expression of ideas on:

"Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence: How Numbers Teach Machines"

The article will be of an exploratory/ documentary type and the participants in the competition are expected to highlight the role of Mathematics in the foundation of Artificial Intelligence. The Article is expected to present and document approaches that correlate Mathematics with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the contexts highlighted in the following Objectives. 

Students of lower and upper secondary education schools of public and private schools of Cyprus are entitled to participate in the competition.

The deadline for the submission of articles is 31st December 2025, until 12:00 noon.

The written articles that will be prepared should be sent by e-mail to the address cms@cms.org.cy in WORD and PDF format simultaneously in the same email. In the subject of the e-mail to be written "Mathematics Article Competition 2026".

The authors of the 10 best articles, that will be distinguished for each level, Gymnasium and Lyceum, will be invited to present their article and their positions at a Live Final, and to answer oral questions of the evaluators.

Based on this assessment the following prizes for each level will be given:

(a) 1st Prize: Diploma of Success, Honorary Plate and Tablet

(b) 2nd Prize: Diploma of Success, Honorary Plate 

(c) 3rd Prize: Diploma of Success.
